Balke Field Test
The Balke field test provides an estimate of VO2 max. The estimates obtained from this test have been found to correlate better than .90 with actual measured values of maximal oxygen intake. Since VO2 max. is considered the single best indicator of aerobic fitness level, the Balke field test provides a simple assessment of cardio-respiratory fitness.

Protocol:
  1. When given the start signal, start the run relatively slowly. Settle, after 2-3 minutes, into a pace that can be maintained for the duration of the run.
  2. At the end of the 15 minute run/walk, stop, calculate, and note the distance traveled in meters. Most tracks today are 400 meters per lap, try to calculate as accurately as possible.
  3. Calculate your estimated max VO2 by entering your data into the form below.
